Luīze Nežberte
The Latvian Youth
Latvian artist Luīze Nežberte, born in 1998, makes exactly the kind of photos I love so much. Intimate and simply, yes, real pictures of real people who are not trying to pretend to be something they are not. In her series I thought I was doing nothing but really I was doing something, Luīze shows shots of her Baltic youth. An existence that exists everywhere in the world, again and again. But these memories, they belong to her alone.
I always carry the camera with me,
Luīze tells FK Magazin. As soon as I see something, I take pictures. Often I catch myself taking pictures because I'm just afraid I'll forget. When I take photos and then edit them, it's helpful to look at it from a distance. It helps to put it all together and understand that it's not that bad.
I've always been annoyed by the way young people are portrayed and that these portrayals come from adults who have long forgotten what it means to be a teenager,
Luīze explains of her decision to take pictures of her immediate surroundings. Besides, all the people around me are important, as is everything that has happened and will happen.
