Avril Lavigne
The Poppy Punk

When Avril Lavignes's debut single Complicated first hit MTV in 2002, it was like Cupid himself was trying to murder me with a bag full of love arrows. The then seventeen-year-old Canadian was not only downright sassy, perky and outrageous, no, her songs were also really good - especially the ones written by Los Angeles singer-songwriter trio Matrix.

Let Go and Under My Skin were, without a doubt, among the most listened-to albums on my green iPod Mini, even if some of the lyrics come across as rather prudish and stale in retrospect, probably due to Avril's Christian upbringing. After all, if her first three records are anything to go by, bitches go straight to hell.

Sk8er Boi, I'm With You, My Happy Ending - Avril Lavigne, despite her not exactly feminist views, banged out one banger after another before she more or less actively decided against me as a marriage candidate and first for Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley and then for Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger. From then on, at the latest, she was dead to me. Rest in peace, Avril Ramona Lavigne.
