Kangaroo and Fries

I went to my grandmother’s birthday party at this restaurant. Started with pumpkin seed soup—nothing fancy but I’d never had it before and it was actually good. Good enough that I had them pack the leftovers.

The main was kangaroo meat. They bring out this hot stone in the middle of the table and you grill it yourself, fries and mayo on the side. So there I am in the middle of the restaurant cooking my own meal, watching it char on the stone. It sounds stupid but it kind of worked.

That’s the thing about it—it wasn’t that the food was incredible, it’s just that it stuck. The pumpkin seed soup, the hot stone kangaroo, the whole weird mechanism of it. The kind of meal you carry around in your head.
