Bounty Hunter Charm
I was really into the bounty hunter thing after watching Domino. There’s something cool about the idea of just going out and catching criminals on your own, no bureaucracy, no one breathing down your neck. So last night when Ana bailed and I was lying around with nothing to do, I had to choose between Dog the Bounty Hunter on TV and some documentary about RVs. The choice seemed obvious.
Two episodes in and I got why it works. The problem is the actual criminals they’re chasing are just some scrambled teenagers who give up the second things get real. But the show knows how to hide that—quick cuts, pumping country rock, all of it working overtime to make mundane reality feel dangerous.
What threw me was Bush’s face in every other shot. Some patriotic thing in the background, over and over. It killed the mood. Though I guess if you’re out there hunting in God’s name, you’re probably not too bothered by that kind of imagery.
