I won a stick somehow by correctly identifying a film from a screenshot in some internet game. Utterly pointless prize for recognizing something you’d forgotten you even knew.

The film in question had caused real controversy in America when it came out. Boycotts from parents’ groups, censorship, the whole moral panic thing. In Germany it apparently didn’t register the same way, though some predecessor supposedly shaped the culture there instead.

Here’s what’s interesting about film censorship: banning something only makes it legendary. The inoffensive stuff that passes every review board without comment gets forgotten in a year. The films people actually tried to suppress are the ones people remember decades later—the ones that supposedly corrupted an entire generation and somehow actually did something.
