The desert island films question forces honesty. You pick what you’d actually rewatch over and over, not what makes you sound smart. My list: Lost in Translation, Battle Royale, Amélie, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Spirited Away. Some I’ve watched a hundred times.

They don’t wear out. There’s something in the rhythm or the image that survives repetition. You can’t fake it. You end up with a list that actually means something.
