Blue Nano

Blue iPod Nano. Got it at Gravis because my headphones finally quit, wandered in, and this one caught my eye instead of the silver or black one everyone else gets.

What you do immediately with a new music player is load it with the songs that matter to you. I put on Ida Maria, Fall Out Boy, the Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer, Royal Treatment Plant. Artists you actually listen to, not whatever was in rotation last week. This isn’t a device—it’s a statement about what you’ve bothered to pay attention to.

Small piece of plastic with songs in it. Weighs almost nothing. But there’s something about carrying around your actual taste, compressed into 8GB, that feels like proof of something. Like evidence you exist.
