Muxtape Is Dead
The music industry won. Muxtape got killed the way good things always get killed—quietly, by people who wake up sweating about what users might do with a simple tool. Justin had to pivot the whole thing toward bands, which means the mixtape part is gone. The reason anyone cared, dead.
It was the simplest idea. You make a mixtape, send it to someone, it lives there. That’s it. No algorithms, no viral hooks, no angle. Just music you picked and a place to put it.
I know how this works. The industry always crushes anything that gives people a little control. But watching something this genuinely good get destroyed for no reason except someone’s copyright anxiety is a specific kind of stupid. The service was better and kinder than anything else trying to do this. It didn’t feel like it was trying to get something from you. That was the part they couldn’t live with.
So there it is. Another small perfect thing, killed because it was too good at doing what it did.
