Nerd Dreams
Japan keeps firing on all cylinders and I’m here for it. This week alone there’s enough weird, brilliant stuff to make heads spin.
Panic Face King is exactly what the name suggests—a TV show designed to make people lose it. Johnson Banks’ Phonetikana is a font that somehow makes Japanese typography click. A hole and Maru have this cat with like twenty different faces, same character infinite moods.
I’m deep in Ikimono Gakari right now. Joyful
is the whole vibe. J-pop at 2 AM, Girl Meets Girl with Coba-U, slo-motion people running to Nujabes—it all connects somehow. Helicopter Boyz at Yomiuri Land doesn’t need to make sense. Disney cookies where Mickey actually gets baked. Otamatone with Keromin, and the Otamatone is shaped like a dick, which is apparently intentional.
Animal Farm with the bear and tiger probably means something I’m not catching, but that’s fine. Breast Pudding, and the best part is it’s not finished. The implication is stronger than any actual punchline.
None of it needs to make sense. That’s the whole point.
