Trippple Nippples

I watched this Arte episode about Tokyo and the thing that stuck with me was a drag queen living with seventeen tarantulas and three hundred and forty wigs. That’s the kind of specific commitment to something completely impractical that’s actually interesting.

The episode moves through different pockets of Tokyo’s underground scene—there’s a place called Trippple Nippples, secret model shops, people building entire lives around fashion and nightlife. No narration trying to explain why any of it matters. Just what’s actually there.

You can tell the difference between someone documenting a scene and someone showing you what someone actually cares about. This lands on the right side of that. The drag queen with the tarantula collection exists completely independent of whatever documentary framework is around her. That’s what makes it work.

I wasn’t expecting much but I ended up watching the whole thing.
