La Roux – Quicksand
I really liked La Roux’s Quicksand.
Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid made this track that sits in a weird place—electro-pop but uncomfortable, like something pressing against the edges. The kind that gets under your skin.
The album was still months out, but this single was already enough. They had another video for In For The Kill
that looked expensive and polished. The Quicksand
video went the opposite way: deliberately cheap, trashy, almost ugly. That friction between the immaculate sound and the intentionally ugly visuals made it work. It made the song feel less like a manufactured product and more like something with real weight.
