Someone Sees It
Malte Christensen, this designer from Berlin, just called the blog absolutely hot
and talked about how authentic it is, how we’re willing to take stances on trashy or borderline material. He’s right. It was one of those moments where someone outside sees what you’re doing more clearly than you’ve been seeing it.
Also had this random thought about how I’d mentioned wanting to play badminton with him and it just never happened.
The thing that stuck with me was realizing we basically let the SuicideGirl feature die without actually deciding to. We just stopped doing it. And Malte’s over there praising us for exactly that—the sexual honesty, the refusal to apologize for the trashy. Which we have, technically, except we’ve been quietly letting it slip.
It’s strange. Someone calling you authentic for something you’re actively losing. But his generosity was genuine. I appreciated that kind of clear-eyed reading.
