Holly Miranda

Followed Scott Matthews down a rabbit hole and found Holly Miranda. Band from Brooklyn, Detroit, Tennessee. Debut EP Sleep On Fire in March, no label behind them. I’ve been stuck on them ever since.

The music is honest in a way that feels almost reckless. Nothing polished, nothing held back. It’s the opposite of that artist music that’s designed to make you feel less alone in your problems—this just documents what the problems look like from the inside, in detail, with nothing softened. And something about that lack of mercy feels more true than anything else.

The singer’s voice matches the music. Real. Rough. You hear it and you believe every word. There’s no performance distance between you and whatever she’s describing.

I don’t have a clean takeaway here. Just that I keep coming back to this music, and that’s usually the only thing that matters.
