Standing in front of Tokyo Tower, all that red steel and confident geometry, I understood what the designer was after. It’s technically obsolete—shouldered aside by endless glass towers—but there’s craft in it, proportion, an understanding of how to make something matter without needing to be the tallest. A tower that knows what it wants to be.
