Losers
I’ve always had a weakness for cartoons that completely lose their minds in the best way. Shows that demolish every convention and somehow stay brilliant doing it. Ren & Stimpy
scrambled my brain for years. Adventure Time
has episodes I’m genuinely going to read to my kids someday. Rocko’s Modern Life
created an entire generation of weird, relentlessly creative people.
Regular Show
is J.G. Quintel’s thing: two permanent fuckups, Mordecai the blue jay and Rigby the raccoon, who somehow landed park maintenance jobs and built their entire existence around it. They live with a buff yeti, a brain tumor that gained sentience and learned to walk, a ghost made entirely of a high-five, and work under a vending machine that talks. Every single episode the universe catches fire. Everything falls apart. Physics becomes optional.
It’s been on Cartoon Network since 2010, distilled stupidity running through completely unhinged characters. The Beavis and Butt-head
comparisons make perfect sense because it’s the same DNA: American loser mentality, total refusal to grow up, the understanding that responsibility is negotiable if you’ve got snacks and time to waste. Mordecai and Rigby are every guy who’d pick literally anything over actual work.
The show gets what it means to want nothing to change. I keep watching because I see myself in that choice.
