Neon Indian’s music has this quality where you’re never quite sure if you’re falling into something or coming up out of it. The synths coast along like you’re driving through some neon-soaked nowhere at 3 AM, and you can’t decide if you’re trying to get home or running from something. It’s that particular kind of pretty that makes you feel alone in a good way, the kind of sound that existed in your head before you ever heard it.
