Coming Back
Jessica Weiß shut down LesMads about a year ago. It was this fashion blog that had actually worked—the kind of thing that becomes a real job, gets books published, wins awards, the whole trajectory. She’d built it with a few other people, made it into something people actually cared about. Then one day she just stopped and moved on to working with Interview Magazine instead.
At the time I remember thinking that made sense. You reach a point where you’ve accomplished what you set out to do and staying on feels like just coasting. The smart thing is to step away before it turns into work you resent. She did the smart thing.
Then Journelles showed up. A new blog, fashion again, but with different collaborators this time—Alexa, Hanna, Julia, Kerstin. Same core idea, completely different structure. Like she’d learned from LesMads and was trying again, but differently. She said fashion has to be fun, and that’s the whole thing right there. The first blog was about building something, proving you could do it. This one’s just about liking the thing itself.
I don’t know much about fashion. But I’ve been around long enough—making things online, watching what works and what doesn’t—to recognize this pattern. You do something because you love it. It works. Success becomes its own weight. And then, if you’re smart, you step away and come back to it. Not to repeat what worked before, just to remember why you started. That’s what Journelles feels like.
