Pharrell’s Court

There’s a moment in everything Pharrell touches where you realize he’s already thought three steps ahead of where you are. He’s been producing and designing and performing long enough that it’s become invisible—you just know something’s good before you know why, and half the time it’s because his name’s somewhere in the credits. He’s got that rare thing where success hasn’t made him sloppy. If anything he’s gotten more precise, more minimal, more confident in what doesn’t need to be there. Twenty years of doing this and he still looks like he’s not trying.
