The Journey Home
Philip is a cynical journalist, bored with life. His journey across America turns into a personal farce, at the end of which he meets Alice and her mother, stranded in New York. He is given the arduous task of bringing the precocious girl back to Europe. On a road trip that increasingly turns into an odyssey, the unlikely pair grow closer and closer. Wim Wenders' 1974 classic Alice in den Städten is an engaging look back at a Germany that now exists only in the rose-tinted memories of a dying generation. Philip's desperate attempt to buy himself proof of his own existence through his photos and stories, and so escape the fear of fear itself, strongly reminds me of myself.
