Squirrel Butts Don't Glow
What a strange film Tideland turned out to be. Jeliza-Rose is the daughter of a self-destructive junkie couple. After her mother dies of an overdose, she flees to the countryside with her musician father, to the abandoned family home. There, together with her doll-head friends, she roams the run-down area and discovers all sorts of magical places and curious people. With his Alice in Psycholand, Terry Gilliam has created a fairy tale that is as disturbing as it is enchanting, and whose most outstanding scenes I'll still remember years from now. Or as Jeliza-Rose put it: If I shut my eyes and try hard enough, maybe I'll wake inside your dream.
