Late Night Memories
I'm currently obsessed with Tokyo Days@, a Japanese variety show that aired almost every night on TV Tokyo just before the turn of the millennium. In it, the two Flip-Flap sisters, Yuko and Aiko, present the latest trends in music, film, art, food and gaming. Over its roughly yearlong run, Tokyo Days@ gave its twin hosts a trendy platform for figures from Japan's cultural underground, including the writer and illustrator Lily Franky, Moonriders founder Keiichi Suzuki and the photographer Herbie Yamaguchi, alongside segments on ska-core, custom dolls, Sega's much-anticipated Dreamcast game Shenmue, and a young Chiaki Kuriyama promoting the horror film 死国.
