Characters who are on a journey to find themselves or long for faraway places. Panah Panahi's directorial debut جاده خاکی has all of that, and so much more. An Iranian family's drive into the unknown is as tragic as it is funny. Whether it's the grumpy father, the cheeky mother, the crazy little brother, or Farid, the traveler himself, every one of them is bursting with emotional depth. And the closer we get to the end of their journey, the more we realize that the world around us is shaped by small fates.
