The Cleanest Windows Machine Was a Mac

Microsoft launched a campaign called "Click. You’re clean"—aimed at scrubbing unwanted software from Windows PCs—and chose to illustrate it with a photo of an Apple PowerBook. Nobody in the building caught it. The blogosphere did, almost immediately, and Microsoft quietly swapped the image for a mother and child, who presumably run Windows, or at least don’t make the joke quite so loud.

It requires a specific combination of inattention and bad luck to pull this off. Someone sourced a stock photo of a person looking satisfied with their computer, and not a single person in the approval chain thought to check whose computer it was. Which, given that the entire campaign premise was "our operating system can be made clean," is a punchline that writes itself. Thanks for the confirmation, though. We already knew.
