The Best Lips on the Internet

Sash has been my favorite SuicideGirl for longer than I care to admit—which, given how many ink-covered women populate that site, actually means something. It’s the lips, mostly. And the blog, which she writes with an openness that most people reserve for 3 a.m. on a bad night. She built a following among the punk and emo crowd on exactly that combination: the look and the willingness to say things out loud.

She’d been angling toward proper modeling work for a while, and now she’s done it—launched her own site with her photographer Cymagen, who has clearly been shooting her long enough that there’s real ease in the images. The aesthetic is dark without being theatrical about it, which is harder to pull off than it looks. Something Californian still comes through under all the shadow.

Meanwhile, SuicideGirls itself just relaunched with a new design. Good timing all around. Good moment to remind everyone that the most interesting people on that platform were always doing more than posing.
