There’s a specific clarity that comes with needing money. The things you’d been treating as untouchable become suddenly available. That August I put the design for this site up for sale—the whole thing, layout and service—for whatever someone was willing to offer. First reasonable number wins. That’s the freelance condition in a sentence: work you made with care, surrendered for whatever the market will bear when the timing is bad.
