Three Editorials, No Apologies
A room full of girls kissing each other and passing a Super Nintendo controller back and forth—that’s "Cool Kids," one of this month’s VICE fashion spreads, and the fact that it exists in a magazine I can read for free is something I try to appreciate at least once a week.
VICE has been doing this to me reliably for years: finding the exact combination of beautiful women, interesting locations, and just enough attitude to make fashion feel like it was made for someone with taste rather than a marketing department, and deploying it month after month until I can’t imagine getting through October without it. Three spreads this issue. "Squat Rave" puts the green-haired Laura and her dog-in-heat through some kind of feral domestic weekend that I find completely compelling for reasons I won’t examine too closely. "Preppy in Pink" rides through New York with Daisy von Furth—understated, a little cool, good light through a car window, a woman who doesn’t need to perform anything.
None of this fixes the weather outside. It helps anyway.
