Sæglópur Will Sort You Out
Put together another mix. Pete Doherty on there, which always feels like inviting a charming disaster to the party—he shows up beautiful and slightly wrecked and somehow makes it work. Lily Allen, doing what Lily Allen does, which is make you feel like pop music is actually capable of honesty. Ladyhawke, who I can’t stop playing. And Sigur Rós’s Sæglópur, which doesn’t promise much from its title but builds into something so quietly overwhelming it’ll rearrange your afternoon.
That Sigur Rós track earned its spot. It starts patient, almost withholding, and then the emotional architecture just opens up. One of those songs that earns its length. Everything else on the mix hits differently by comparison—harder before it, softer after. Depends on the order you’re feeling.
Next time: Bee Gees and ABBA. Just kidding. Maybe.
