Yakuza Afternoons

Greasy pseudo-yakuzas slicking back their hair, cruising the city in hot rides, spending their afternoon playing leapfrog in the park—and then scrambling home before the sandman comes, because even fictional mob guys apparently have curfews. That’s the video for Nothing to Worry About by Peter Bjorn and John, and it’s exactly the kind of visually precise absurdity that gets me every time.

As someone with a not-entirely-secret Japan obsession, this is basically personal service. The whole production teeters between parody and genuine affection for the aesthetic, and the song underneath has that effortless mid-tempo cool that makes the imagery feel inevitable.
