A Million Times Underground

Almost posted about Metro Station today. Had the whole thing drafted—an embarrassingly positive piece about their video Seventeen Forever—written mostly to impress a certain type of girl. Then I noticed Miley Cyrus was in it. Miley plus her commercially attached father, none of the emotional damage required. The whole thing collapsed on contact. Fuck Metro Station.

Instead: Uh Huh Her. Two women walking down the street with a miniature unicorn while colors arc through the air around them, Not A Love Song underneath all of it. I know it’s not new—came out a while back—but I’ve run it on repeat in the subway so many times it’s practically part of my commute. Something about the way the melody sits low, the production keeping its distance, makes it work in transit. You’re not quite sad, not quite fine, moving underground in a metal tube while a tiny unicorn trots through your headphones. That’s a specific feeling. It counts.
