Sigur Rós – Gobbledigook

I was sick as hell that week—everything hurt, I’d run out of everything. Cornflakes, aspirin, the will to function. So I did what you do: watched music videos at noon.

Sigur Rós’ ’Gobbledigook’ came up. The song is what you’d expect from them—massive strings swelling, Jónsi’s voice floating somewhere between singing and breathing, everything building toward this thing that’s almost too beautiful to be real. The video is just naked people in white space, moving slowly, these small gestures that shouldn’t be sensual but somehow are. No performance, no narrative—just bodies being bodies.

I think I loved it because it wasn’t asking anything of me. The song did all the emotional lifting, and the video was just… there. Calm. Presence. No story. By the time it ended I felt marginally less like I was dying. That was enough.
