Every Video Should Look Like This
Some videos make you angry at every other video. The image is sharp, the colors aren’t bleeding, the audio sits in the room with you rather than crawling out of a laptop grille. It makes you want to shut down YouTube entirely and route everything through Vimeo, where people seem to understand that resolution is not a luxury.
The band is Kish Mauve—a London electropop duo who released their album Black Heart in spring 2009. The mid-to-late 2000s were absolutely drowning in two-pieces built on synths and clean vocals—The Ting Tings, La Roux, half a dozen others—but Kish Mauve had a specific restraint that made them worth the time. Their single Matthew is a good song made better by a video that actually respects the light.
