Everything She Refuses to Be
Uffie spent the late 2000s being the coolest girl at the party before she’d made a single album—her Ed Banger mixtapes circulated like contraband, all deadpan attitude and borrowed cool, and by the time Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans finally arrived in 2010, the hype had done what hype does and gotten a little complicated. "Difficult" cuts through all that. It’s a shrug dressed as a manifesto: Uffie refusing to accommodate, refusing to perform whatever charm is expected of her. The production has that chilly Ed Banger snap, and she sounds genuinely at ease in a way she doesn’t always on the bigger tracks. Not the album’s flashiest moment. Possibly its most honest.
