The Morning After Mike Skinner

There’s a specific kind of ceiling-staring that The Streets has always understood—not the physical hangover but the one where you’ve spent a day off doing something you shouldn’t, and now you’re lying there accounting for it. Mike Skinner built a whole career out of that moment: the day after, the coming down, the gap between what the night promised and what the morning delivers. "The Day After The Day Off On One" is almost redundantly a Streets title—that slightly clumsy specificity, the refusal to dress up what it’s describing. He was always better at the aftermath than the event.
