Six Minutes, No Explanation Needed

Marcus Lambkin—Shit Robot—makes house music with the patience of someone who has never once tried to impress anyone. Take ’Em Up, from his 2010 debut From the Cradle to the Rave, does exactly what good house music does: builds slowly, arrives late, earns whatever happens next. DFA Records was doing interesting things at that intersection of disco, post-punk, and pure club function around this time, and this track sits comfortably in that lineage without announcing it. Put it on at the right moment and the room shifts without knowing why.
