The Weekend Never Really Ends
Smith Westerns were teenagers from Chicago who sounded exactly like that—guitars slightly off-tune in ways they either hadn’t noticed or actively preferred, melodies arriving faster than the technical ability to fully contain them. "Weekend Forever" lives entirely in the gap between the promise a title like that makes and the slightly ramshackle way the song keeps it. It sounds like Friday afternoon. Like the weekend is a place rather than a period of time, somewhere you could theoretically stay if you just refused to acknowledge Sunday. Which is, I suppose, the whole fantasy.
