Springfield After Dark

There’s a genre of Simpsons fan art that takes the show’s pastel safety and turns it wrong—familiar yellow faces in genuinely unsettling configurations, the domestic comedy backdrop curdling into something harder to look at. These comics lean into that gap. Lisa’s vegetarianism, the show’s most earnest running joke, becomes an entry point for a version of Springfield that the writers never intended and the animators never drew. The distance between the show we grew up with and what a knowing hand can do to those same images is wider than you’d think.
