The Daughter Who Outran the Obvious
I Blame Coco was Coco Sumner’s project, and the obvious problem with being Sting’s daughter making indie pop in 2010 was that you couldn’t escape the comparison even when the music had nothing to do with him. Quicker didn’t try to escape it—it just made the conversation irrelevant. The track had a clean forward momentum, slightly cold and slightly driven, and it didn’t sound like it was trying to prove anything, which was exactly what made it convincing. The best argument for her wasn’t biographical. It was just the song.
