Ronson’s Easy Ride

The Bike Song, from Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.’s 2010 album Record Collection, arrives with the loose confidence of someone who earned the right to be unhurried. Kyle Falconer’s vocals drift over a groove that suggests late summer and no particular destination—which is either the point or the limitation, depending on how charitable you’re feeling. After the Amy Winehouse years, after producing some of the most emotionally precise pop of that decade, Ronson making something this light feels less like a step down than a deliberate exhale. Not everything has to be a statement. Sometimes a good song is just a good song.
