Soft Signal from Somewhere Far

"Hey Sparrow" drifts in like something recorded in a warm room with the windows left open—Peaking Lights doing their particular thing, which is making music that sounds like it’s arriving from several time zones away and arriving gently. Their 2011 album 936 is full of this: Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis building structures out of dub basslines, tape hiss, and vocals that seem less sung than exhaled. "Hey Sparrow" sits in the middle of that world, not going anywhere urgently, which is the whole point. Some music asks for your attention. This one just waits for it.
