Cymbals Eat Guitars: Keep Me Waiting

"Keep Me Waiting" comes from Lenses Alien, Cymbals Eat Guitars’ second record, and it has the quality that the best tracks on that album share: a slow build that earns its eventual noise, guitars that don’t arrive so much as accumulate until the weight of them becomes the point. The New Jersey band never got the attention they deserved, probably because the kind of rock they were making—dense, slightly bleak, emotionally unambiguous—wasn’t what anyone was calling the future in 2011. It still sounds right to me.
