Everything Loops Eventually

Somewhere in Berlin, someone had the correct instinct: project animated GIFs large onto the walls, invite people to dance underneath them, and call it a night. GIF.ME.BERLIN was that party. By the end of 2011 the GIF was completing its cultural rehabilitation—ascending from early-internet artifact to dominant visual currency—and there was something right about marking that in a room full of bodies, each loop running over and over while everyone moved through it. Three seconds of motion, indefinitely repeated. The GIF stays where a film dissolves. It becomes part of you without asking.
