Yuck’s Shook Down lands exactly where their debut album spent most of its time—somewhere between Dinosaur Jr. and early Pavement, guitars fuzzed out to the point of softness, Daniel Blumberg singing like he’s just woken up and hasn’t decided whether that’s a good thing yet. The 90s indie nostalgia trip that seemed calculated on paper somehow avoided feeling calculated in practice. This was one of the songs that made it work.
