Merlin Bronques Loves Berlin Back

Merlin Bronques made his name shooting the kind of nights that don’t exist by morning—downtown New York, the backrooms and rooftops and after-hours basements where the beautiful and the wrecked overlapped. Berlin made sense as a next chapter. The city has that same quality of granting permission, of being somewhere you can disappear into and come out as something else. His photographs carry that feeling too: everyone in them looks like they’re exactly where they chose to be, at exactly the right moment, even when they’re clearly falling apart.
