What Mount Kimbie Does to a Room
Mount Kimbie’s music does something specific to the texture of a room: it makes the air feel thicker, warmer, slightly pressurized. Carbonated sits inside that effect—guitar fragments pulled apart and rebuilt as something electronic, drums that seem to remember being acoustic, a whole sonic space that feels like it’s breathing. Dominic Maker and Kai Campos were figuring out post-dubstep as something personal rather than genre-bound, and Carbonated is one of the cleaner examples of what that sounds like when it actually works.
