In September 2011, Amber Heard was somewhere between Drive Angry and The Rum Diary—which is to say she was exactly where the industry wanted her: beautiful, available for projection, not yet fully defined. The "Girl in the Garden" framing was almost too on the nose. Something decorative placed in a natural setting, light falling just so. She made it work anyway. She always made it work.
