Awesome New Republic were a Miami duo making electronic music at the exact moment electronic music was trying to figure out what it wanted to be. Their sound had that early-digital warmth—synthesizers that felt almost tactile, tempos that encouraged movement without demanding it. It’s Around You sat in that space: the title doing most of the work, naming the feeling their tracks reliably produced. You didn’t so much listen to it as find yourself already inside it.
