São Paulo Has Always Hit Harder

CSS—Cansei de Ser Sexy, a name lifted from a Beyoncé quote by a group of São Paulo kids who found it funny—spent their first years confusing anyone who needed their music to sit cleanly in a genre. The 2011 single "Hits Me Like A Rock" has the same quality their best work always had: something fizzing and slightly off, like the band is three seconds ahead of wherever you expected them to land. Brazilian electro-rock sounds like a genre description invented after the fact to explain what CSS were already doing.
