Heaven Is Hazy
Twin Sister were a dream pop group from Long Island who made music that sounded like heat shimmer—slow, humid, hovering just above the ground. Kimmi In A Rice Field comes from their 2011 album In Heaven and does exactly what the title implies: it plants you somewhere warm and still, up to your ankles in water, not going anywhere in particular. Andrea Estella’s voice sits in the middle of the mix as if it’s dissolving into it. The band later renamed themselves Mr. Twin Sister and drifted toward darker, clubbier territory—but this particular register, pastoral and half-asleep, is something they never quite came back to.
