Zimbabwe, Somewhere Warm

Zimbabwe by New Navy does the thing I find hardest to explain to people who don’t follow this corner of electronic music—it takes a place name and drains it of geography, turns it into pure texture. The track is gauzy and warm, built more from atmosphere than structure, the kind of lo-fi electronic pop that sounds like it was recorded somewhere the light comes in sideways. New Navy operates out of Australia and sounds like it, in the best possible way: unhurried, a little sun-damaged, content to be beautiful without making a fuss about it.
