Something Dark to Dance To

"Shady Love" arrived in early 2012 as the first taste of what would become the Scissor Sisters’ fourth album, Magic Hour. It’s a deliberate left turn—darker, more narcotized than the glam-disco of Night Work, built around a groove that feels assembled in a room with the blinds down at noon. The uncensored version features Azealia Banks trading verses over a beat that’s equal parts sleaze and precision. Jake Shears has always known how to make debauchery sound earned rather than performed, and here the whole band leans into it. The kind of track you put on when the night has already gone sideways and you’ve decided you’re fine with that.
